The Kompound controller sits between the reader and the barrier and drives it directly. The decision is made at the gate, from a list the gate already holds, so the arm lifts whether the line is up or down.

Plenty of estates have a barrier. Fewer have a barrier that knows who is allowed through it, and fewer still have one that keeps working when the line drops.

The arm follows the code

A valid pass drives the barrier directly, rather than a gateman deciding by eye and then raising it by hand.

The decision happens at the gate

The approved list sits on the controller, so the check does not travel to a server and back before the arm moves.

Every movement is written

The same event that lifts the arm writes the log line, so the record cannot drift from what actually happened.

What estates ask before they decide.

Can Kompound control our existing boom barrier?
In most cases yes. The Kompound controller sits between the reader and the barrier and drives it through a dry contact or Wiegand output, which is what the majority of installed barriers already accept. We confirm compatibility with your specific barrier during the demo before anything is ordered.
Does the barrier still open when the internet is down?
Yes, and this is the point of the design. The approved list is held on the controller at the gate and on the gate phone. A valid code opens the barrier without any request leaving the estate, so a check takes the same path whether the line is up or down.
What happens during a power cut?
Gate equipment is specified to run through interruptions the same way the rest of the estate does, on the gate's existing backup supply. This is settled during the site survey, because it depends on what the estate already has at the gate house.
Do we need a barrier to use Kompound?
No. Kompound runs on a gate phone on its own, and many estates start that way. The barrier integration is added where the estate already has, or decides to install, access control hardware at the entrance.
What can open the barrier?
A six digit visitor code, a QR pass, or a resident credential, depending on how the estate is set up. Every method writes the same log line: who, whose guest, which direction and at what time.
Who installs it?
Installation is handled with our hardware partner, who supplies and fits the barrier and terminals. The Kompound side is configuration rather than construction, so the gate is usually running the same week.
